So, you’ve got a website for your recruitment company but not sure how well it fairs against your competitors? That, or you’ve got a website that’s not yet ranking well in Google and you’re wondering why?
It’s likely there’s many reasons for the latter and it’s definitely too much to go over in one blog article. Instead I will keep this article short and simply use it to point you in the right direction where’s best to get started.
The best place to start is making sure your website is built to a certain standard, functions fast, and works on all devices. The good news is there are many free online tools to help you do this in a matter of seconds.
If you Google something on the lines of “Website Speed and Performance Optimization” then I’m sure you will be presented with a load of great options. Below are some of my favourites.
Before you dive in and start analyzing your website(s), I want to point out that a lot of the data returned is quite technical and I don’t expect you to understand most of it. In future blog articles I will be explaining in more detail some of the main points. For now, use this as a starting point to compare your website with your competitor’s website. This will at least give you a great comparison of the two and hopefully give you some ideas where you can improve.
Since Google accounts for around 75% desktop and 86% mobile search traffic then it’s probably a great idea to ask Google what they think about your website. At the end of the day if they don’t think it’s up to scratch then they wont rank it highly.

A nice and easy tool to check your website speed. The main thing to look out for here is that your website loads within about 2 seconds. Anything over needs improvements and will be affecting your search rankings. If your website is loading slow it’s likely the page file size is quite large or there’s a lot of http requests. Your developer will be able to help you reduce your website’s overall file size and get your http request down by optimizing images and combining scripts.

This is more of a technical tool like Google Page Insights. It’s going to give you a comprehensive list of improvements which can be made to your website. A lot of the information is highly technical so don’t worry if you don’t understand most of it. Simply use this tool to compare against your competitor’s website. If you have a web development team that usually takes care of your website then they would also find this report tool useful.
